Johan

Finally got a new post up here. Let me just say, im not too concerned with Johan. First of all, hes a warrior he's not some fragile pretty boy. Ed Coleman is on with Adam the bull right now and he doesn't seem to bothered by the whole thing. Everyone needs to understand that this is the very beginning of spring training, this isn't a week from opening day so everyone calm down, take a breath, and just relax. As i said before, contrary to the pessimistic reports, im not too concerned.

Anyway, there is a game today! ill try and do some posts during or after the game so everyone stay tuned...

30 Clubs in 30 Days- Mets

So far this show is excellent. This show is just solidifying my love for the MLBN. I really like how they're not making the mets out to be a terrible, horrible, bottom of the barrel team of scrubs like ESPN does (cough cough...Kruk...Steve Philips..cough) Anyway, ill update as i see things i like...

...Love the profile on the rotation, had great stuff to say about everyone...

...Excelent interview with Omar, they asked a lot of good questions that i have not heard asked to him before. Next is a montage of the greatest moments in mets history. I always love a nice highlight reel of mets moments....

...Great montage, ill never forget the image of Endy leaping to grab that ball, and i love the clip of Benny hitting that bomb...

Overall a very strong show. Like i said yesterday i usually don't enjoy these kinds of shows. Most of the time they are so generic and boring. This was a great analysis of the 2009 mets focusing on 2009 and not the past 2 years like every other media outlet seems to do. I have to say that im so glad that Harold Reynolds has a job again. I loved him on SNY and i love him on the MLBN. In my opinion hes one of the best in the business and its a shame what happened to him at ESPN. Anyway, great show, ill be looking forward to the MLB Tonight shows during the season, I will be switching my allegiance from Baseball Tonight to MLB Tonight for sure.

Mets on MLBN

Tomorrow night at 11pm the MLB Network will air  the Mets turn in "30 Clubs in 30 Days". Some interviews and ect. with some special stuff about the opening of Citi Field.

...Usually these kind of specials don't get me too excited, but the MLBN is such a fantastic network im actually looking forward to it. If you haven't had a chance to check out the MLBN  I suggest it, its by far the best channel for baseball goods. I'll post a reaction to the show afterwards...

Daniel Murphy Named Starter

Good news comes out of Mets camp yesterday, Snoop Manuel told everyone that Daniel Murphy will get the bulk of the playing time in left this year leaving Fernando Tatis to apparently compete with Ryan Church for the right field spot.

... Personally i like this move by Jerry. I think that giving murphy the job this early will give him a lot of confidence in his game and we know how much of a workhorse he already is. However, Im not sure that having Tatis compete with Church is the best move. When church is on, he's a beast and he can be one of our most dangerous players, but i really think that we have seen the best of Fernando's ability, especially in the outfield. If anything Church is a much better defender and provides more security in right. Tatis should be used as backup for Murphy and also be used as a 3rd or 1st base backup. Obviously he is a nice bat off the bench as well...

Thoughts

As the start of the season nears, the reality of Shea being gone really starts to hit. Like most fans, Shea stadium is all i know. Sure it was a little scummy, and some sections seemed to have a strange odor, but i loved that odor and i smelled up every second of it. I loved walking through the parking lots just seeing how everyone shows their allegiance in a different way. Many tossing a football or playing wiffle ball and just enjoying the fantastic feeling one gets the second they stroll into that lot. Getting to the stadium early to watch batting practice was always something i looked forward to. Jumping in line hours before the start of the game and running up the ramps to get a good spot behind the dugout hoping to get an autograph or a foul ball. I enjoyed watching each player in the cage taking bp the most. Being able to have an up close view of david wright spanking a few into the bleachers was mesmerizing. Im sure Citi field will go above and beyond to please every fan but no stadium will ever be able to replace Shea. Im looking forward to forming new memories with Citi field, but every time i step foot in there, ill be thinking back to those fantastic times i had with Shea.

More A-Rod....

According to the NY Daily news Alex Rodriguez has been closely associated to a man who has been directly linked to steroids. Angel Presinal, a 48 year old fitness trainer, has been banned from any part of a ballpark not open to the public because he has had incidents involving steroids. In fact, MLB has warned the players to stay away from him. The interesting part is that Presinal has been tagging along with A-Rod up to last season. He would stay in a separate room in every hotel with A-Rod, and the two would never be seen in public. Presinal has been linked to names such as, Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, Vladimir Guerrero, Bartolo Colon, Miguel Tejada, Adrian Beltre, Moises Alou, And a few others.

Keith on Seinfeld

Watching the Seinfeld episode with Keith Hernandez guest staring. Never gets old... Gotta love Keith.

Anyway, goodnight all, ill see ya tomorrow.

New cap

Via Metsblog.com

Here is the official press release from the team:

Image004“The Mets will wear a new cap for the entirety of the 2009 season featuring a patch on the left side commemorating the opening of CitiField.  The team will wear the new caps on Monday for team photos, and then the caps will debut officially on Opening Day.  Designed by MLB and the Mets last year and manufactured by New Era, the caps will be available for purchase beginning next week (week of 2/23).  The caps, available in blue, black and black/blue (blue attached and below), will have a one-week exclusive at MLB.com, Modell’s, Mets Clubhouse Stores and at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, the Mets’ Spring Training camp.”

New Patch

So apparently all the complaints on the new Citi patch have been heard! The ugly, boring, plain, pizza box Inaugural patch will still be displayed on the jerseys but not on the hats, shirts, ect. and will also be found around the stadium. This means all the merch. bought from mets.com will have the new patch (aside from the jerseys). thank god for this, that patch would have been mentioned in every single game. It still will be talked about but not nearly as much. I cant find a picture of it anywhere but Matthew Cerrone has some pictures he took at Tradition Field that show some of the players with the patch on their hat, ill try and grab some of those and throw them up over here.

Spring

Man i wish i could get down to Florida to check out spring training. Im going to try and post some pictures from Matthew Cerrone's Metsblog.com. He's down there live blogging, something i dream of doing. Anyway, ill have some pics up soon.

It begins...

So this is my first "official" post about the 2009 season and i have to admit, after be skeptical all off season with the direction this team has take, im actually quite excited. There are a lot of fans out thee who felt the team had to get Manny and i felt the same way, but after thinking about it, the problem last year was not the offense. it was the pitching. With the addition of J.J. and K-Rod we have a brick wall sealing up the last 2 innings of the game. Im excited to see how the pen comes together. We have a lot of guys in camp and i think well see a few emerge above the rest. Sean Green is someone im looking forward to watching in spring training, J.J. praises this guy and he seems to be similar to Joe Smith and it looks like he should be a little more reliable. Many of you are thinking that Luis Castillo is an absolute horror show and that he should have been moved this off season but he wasn't. He is still on the team and he will be the starting second basemen for this team. All we can do is cheer for him until he gives us a reason not to. there is nothing we can do to change his status, so why not just give him our support. Apparently he has come into camp 17 pounds lighter, so thats a good start. All in all i know we have a solid team and i know that we will compete in every game. This team is hungry and they have to prove to everyone that they are not "choke artists" as Cole Hamels put it. Im looking forward to a positive season and i cant wait for the first pitch.

The Lo-Down

Alright everyone, here is the deal. Im a huge mets fan, have been all my life. I love sports but baseball stands alone at the top of the list. Im going to try and update on mostly mets goodies but will also touch on some of the current events in baseball, and also some current events that i feel are important. I hope you guys like my insight and tell everyone you know about it. Anyway, im still trying to work out some of the kinks and trying to figure out mobile blogging and whatnot so tomorrow morning we should be all set to go.
